“‘I didn’t want to be saddled with a vehicle that was associated with something so awful’, Filipos said. ‘When you own a vehicle like that, you are advertising for that company’.”

"Filipos is part of a growing movement of Tesla enthusiasts who are now turning their backs on the company – selling their cars, dropping their leases and getting rid of Tesla stock. Many say that, while they still love the cars, they can’t square the CEO’s politics and behavior with their own. Musk is synonymous with Tesla; his vehicles, the Cybertruck in particular, are his calling cards.”

From January 27th, 2025;

"Hindu nationalism, misogyny and the ‘manosphere’ have been identified as breeding grounds for extremism in a leaked report commissioned by Yvette Cooper after last summer’s riots.”

"The report, which was leaked to the right-leaning thinktank Policy Exchange, comes amid deepening scrutiny of the government’s approach to extremism. On Sunday, it emerged that counter-terrorism officers did not believe the Southport killer Axel Rudakubana was ‘in danger of being radicalised’.”

From January 25th, 2025;

"Counter-terrorism officers did not believe Southport killer Axel Rudakubana was ‘in danger of being radicalised’, leaks from a Home Office report have revealed.

The Prevent learning review will criticise counter-terrorism officers for failing to properly take into account Rudakubana’s obsession with extreme violence when it is released, the Sunday Times has reported.”

The warnings are always there.

STRICTER LAWS! That’ll solve it! 🤪

“More than 140 Facebook content moderators have been diagnosed with severe post-traumatic stress disorder caused by exposure to graphic social media content including murders, suicides, child sexual abuse and terrorism.

The moderators worked eight- to 10-hour days at a facility in Kenya for a company contracted by the social media firm […]”

“Joe Mulhall, the author of Rebel Sounds and director of research at the anti-racism organisation Hope Not Hate, said: “Sadly, it feels like we are going backwards.”

Mulhall held an event at a secret location last Sunday night after a pub cancelled what was intended to be an evening of discussion and music about the book.”

"Another bookshop that cancelled a few weeks ago after receiving threats has now pulled out of plans to restage the event in December after getting new threats immediately after it was listed online.”

A photo of Joe Mulhall, speaking and playing music at a secret event held in east London on 17 November after a pub became the latest in a string of venues to pull out of events to promote his book.

He is sitting behind a table with a camera aimed at and a blackboard behind him, in what looks like a small coffee/book shop.

“Hanif Kureishi, Billy Bragg and freedom of speech groups have voiced alarm after a number of venues cancelled events to promote a book by an anti-racism campaigner amid threats and fears that the recent riots have emboldened the far right.

An east London bookshop this week became the latest venue to pull plans to promote [a book]”

"It follows the scrapping of similar events at bookshops and pubs over the last few weeks, and the cancellation by the BFI London film festival (LFF) last month of a screening of a documentary about the far right.”

“The Texas board of education voted 8-7 on Friday to approve a new Bible-based curriculum in elementary schools.

The curriculum, called ‘Bluebonnet Learning’, could be implemented as soon as August 2025 and affects English and language arts teaching material for kindergarten through fifth grade public school classes.

Teachers will have a choice to opt into the new faith-based learning curriculum, but the state is offering a financial incentive of $60 a student for participating school districts.”

They’ll make it mandatory later, of course.

“With only two months left until Donald Trump returns to the White House, the president-elect and convicted felon has been waging lawfare by a flurry of lawsuits against media companies and publishers that have been critical of him.”

“On Thursday, Columbia Journalism Review revealed that just days before the presidential election, Trump’s lawyer Edward Andrew Paltzik issued a letter to the New York Times and Penguin Random House that demanded $10bn in damages over articles critical of Trump.”

All that both sides sure worked out great, huh?

“Many postmortems of last week’s election have tried to preserve the notion that Trump’s voter’s did not endorse him and his vision – that they know not what they do. This is dishonest, and a bit patronizing toward Trump’s supporters.

Trump’s voters, for the most part, know exactly what he is, and what voting for him means. They are not ignorant or mistaken about him. They endorse him and what he is.”

Also, ‘your body, my choice’ is a rape threat, plain and simple, and should be dealt with as such.

“Florida’s department of education has released a list of more than 700 books that were ‘removed or discontinued’ from schools across the state after changes to a state law last year that allows parents and residents to challenge the content of library books.

This year’s list, which has doubled in size from last year, includes titles such as Beloved by Toni Morrison, Normal People by Sally Rooney, and Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut.”

Ah, yes, this will solve that;

“The National Farmers’ Union lobbied to increase the amount of pesticides allowed in the UK’s drinking water and to allow farmers to spread manure more frequently as part of a post-Brexit loosening of environmental regulations, it can be revealed.”

It's not Brexit that put farmers 'on the brink’, or the lack of action on climate change, but the fact that they aren't allowed to poison the earth 🙄
