Release of Palestinian prisoners is being delayed: Reports Israel’s Kann broadcaster reports that the Israeli government has ordered prison authorities to suspend the planned release of Palestinian prisoners today “until further notice”. Israel’s Army Radio also reported the news, saying that buses with detainees are heading back to Israel’s Ofer Prison. As we’ve been reporting, 110 Palestinian prisoners, including 30 children, are set to be released, in exchange for three Israeli and five Thai captives.

Israeli army must attack ‘terrorists’ participating in Palestinian celebrations: Minister Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz has instructed the army to prevent Palestinians in the occupied West Bank from celebrating during upcoming releases of prisoners as part of the Gaza exchange agreement with Hamas. “All measures must be taken to prevent the recurrence of celebrations and mass Palestinian marches in honour of the release of Palestinian terrorists to Judea and Samaria,” Katz was quoted as saying by Israeli media in a letter to military chief Herzi Halevi. “Judea and Samaria” is the name Israel uses for the West Bank. Katz said the army must attack any “armed Palestinian terrorist who participates in these marches”. The next such swap, in which Israeli captives are being exchanged for Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails, is set to take place on Saturday as part of a ceasefire that began on Sunday and has largely held so far. As we reported earlier, the Israeli government has emphasised that it intends to keep on fighting in the Gaza Strip and launch a new major military operation in the West Bank despite the ceasefire.

Israeli forces have been using tear gas on Palestinians outside Ofer Prison Al Jazeera is reporting from Jordan because it has been banned from Israel and the occupied West Bank. This is an attempt by Israeli forces to push families and media back because they do not want any attention on the release of Palestinian prisoners. The Israeli prison service released a statement days ago saying that they are going to be heavily involved in this release, more so than they were previously because they want to limit all expressions of joy among Palestinians who are getting released. This prisoner release was a huge point of contention in the Israeli government because the far-right didn’t want to see any released at all. So it’s not so shocking to see this tear gas being fired at people in the area because we saw similar scenes back in November of 2023 when the first and only other ceasefire deal took place. The reason why the Israeli military is taking so long to release them is that they don’t want people on the street celebrating.

Few people gathered at Ofer Prison after Israel issued warning Nida Ibrahim - Reporting from Doha, Qatar Al Jazeera is reporting from Qatar because it has been banned from Israel and the occupied West Bank. We are noticing from the images from Ofer Prison that the number of people gathered to receive the Palestinian prisoners set to be released is a lot less than the previous exchange deal in the four-day truce in November 2023. This might be because Israeli authorities have been calling the relatives of the prisoners and saying they are not allowed to show any jubilation. For many in the West Bank, this is not a time of celebration because they are deeply aware that this result was achieved through the pain of the people in Gaza.
