You know what we could bring back? Dutch foot warmers. As far as I've understood back then they were a wooden little box that had a metal tray in them, and in the tray were hot coals. I'm sure we could do some modern low energy alternative of a little box to rest your cold feetsies on. Here's the painting The Lacemaker by Wybrand Hendriks with one of them!

An 18th century oil painting of a woman making lace on a lace maker's pillow with a little wooden cube thing under her feet just peeking out from her quilted skirts or petticoats. She is wearing a tan jacket, white linen cap, a fichu tucked into her neckline and a pocket. There's a spinning wheel next to her, assorted fabrics and rovings waiting, and in the background there is a little dog sitting and watching, a clock with very long mechanism pulleys, and the view through a series of rooms through multiple doorways. There's a wash basin, ladles, hints of what the rooms may be. It's a slightly dark little painting, but quite realistic, visually striking and pleasant in a structured way. The woman with her tan jacket and salmon red skirt is the only spot of colour and the focus.
