Most famously, Gorton secretly strategized the successful 1996 reelection campaign of Russian President Boris Yeltsin, with his son pitching in. The effort, supported with a wink and a nudge from President Bill Clinton, landed on the cover of Time magazine with the headline “Yanks to the Rescue.” The 2003 Showtime movie, “Spinning Boris” starring Jeff Goldblum as Gorton, sketches out the story. Gorton also left similar political fingerprints in Panama, Romania, Czechoslovakia and Canada.
