Lenny Rachitsky is probably the biggest influencer in product management. He just launched his interview with Tobi Lütke, the CEO of Shopify, where he talks about the importance of empathy for your customers to build great products.

That's great, Tobi, but you're also very publicly and vocally backing Trump, who seeks to destroy Canada's economy, and is actively doing everything he can to remove empathy from the Government.

Also, where was your empathy when you denied residential school mass graves? Way to lead by example.

#Shopify was in such a rush to remove their #Indigenous initiative "Build Native" on the day of Trump inauguration that they nuked the website before even updating the footer on their website.

So the footer of shopify.com leads to a 404
Footer on shopify.com (lots of links, circling the Build Native links)

On December 2024, #Shopify released this new podcast series
"Welcome to "Build Native", a special miniseries where we speak with four inspiring Indigenous entrepreneurs about building impactful businesses, connecting to their roots, and driving change through commerce."

Hard to believe they would go from promoting it in December, to disbanding in January, unless Shopify decided very quickly to jump on the bandwagon to destroy all DEI initiatives.

The main website of the program was just put offline by Shopify, it was previously at
https://buildnative.shop/

Entirely removed of the internet.

So as many tech companies are axing their DEI program, #Shopify is quietly axing their Indigenous program just on time for Trump inauguration

I feel like Canadian journalists should look at that

2 weeks after the #Shopify CEO claimed mass grave of Indigenous kids at residential school was a hoax in Canada

The founder and head of the Native Indigenous Entrepreneurship Program at Shopify is leaving the company

(this was a very well known program that got lots of publicity a few years ago)

Sharing his Linkedin post here (it was a public post)
Kyle Brennan Shawinipinesi. After nearly a decade, last week marked my final days at Shopify. It's hard to find the right words to capture this journey, but as | reflect, what stands out most is the overwhelming gratitude | feel—for the opportunities | was given, the people who supported me, and the lessons I've learned along the way. When | started, | was just a rez kid and entrepreneur, excited to share what I'd learned with anyone who would listen. With years of advocacy and the allyship of so many incredible people, we built something from the ground up—a mission rooted in creating opportunities for my community, helping others see their own worth, and empowering them to chase their dreams. Watching those ideas blossom into real change has been one of the greatest honors of my life. I'll always cherish the memories of those early days—taking customer service calls in my kitchen (“Press delete, no, delete, yup, the big button that says delete)—and the moments that pushed me far beyond my comfort zone. Speaking on panels across the world, judging pitch competitions, and even stepping into classrooms at Harvard were experiences | never imagined for myself. None of it was easy, and there were countless times it felt impossible, but the belief in what we were building always kept me moving forward. To everyone who challenged, guided, or believed in me: thank you. | couldn’t have done this alone, and | carry deep appreciation for every conversation, collaboration, and connectio

#Shopify Canadian CEO Tobi now claiming that mass graves of Indigenous kids at residential schools was a hoax

Screenshot from Twitter where Tobi Lutke is retweeting: The claim of mass graves at Canadian schools has unraveled, and the people who amplified the hoax will never ever forgive Canadians for ceasing to believe it.

"James Harr planned to sell "Most Wanted CEO" playing cards as a critique of capitalist harm-doers. Within a day of announcing the cards, he was visited by the #NYPD and had his #Shopify account disabled."

#Asking self-employed folk with their own websites, what’s the best, most secure way to host your own blog - maybe with a shop front - these days please?

I used to host my own years ago using WP plugins, but seems precarious security-wise these days.

Also, what do people prefer to as alternatives to Etsy (shopify?)
