My experience of meltdowns. They're like my brain getting food poisoning from spoiled milk.

A meltdown feels like my brain has gotten food poisoning from spoiled milk. Changes in routine, too much information and new/unexpected situations where I must problem solve feel like my brain is drinking spoiled milk.
My brain and body get "sick" as a result. I get a headache and get agitated and feel very emotionally and physically dysregulated. If it's bad enough, it turns into a full-blown. uncontrollable meltdown.
It's like a tsunami of overwhelming emotions and rage that comes in multiple waves. My psychologist and I have found that a compression vest for deep pressure and vigorous exercise eg boxing can help me "ride the wave" somewhat better.
But sometimes the meltdown is too strong for me to access those strategies and I just need to keep myself safe until the storm passes.
