My cousin was called for jury service and was excited to play her part in the justice system. She’s just been told however that she cannot serve after all because the court has no lift and she cannot walk up stairs. This a good example of how disabled people are excluded from public life #Ableism
20 odd years ago my dad got called for jury service. He phoned them up to ask if the Court was wheelchair accessible and was told "oh we didn't realise you're disabled, you're automatically excused".

He replied that no he didn't want to be excused, he wanted to be on the jury and how accessible was it? At least in his case the court room was accessible and he got to serve, but that assumption of "if you're disabled you're automatically excused" can't really help to make juries representative.
is this not illegal?
obv. whether it is isn't of much consequence necessarily, but I'd still like to know
Oh it’s in complete contravention of the Equality Act 2010. But organisations get away with it all the time
