this purple gallinule was at Hughe's Hollow today, in Maryland.

VERY rare sight, and he was so close!

a colorful bird which is about chicken sized, but with long yellow "good for swamps" legs, wide feet, and a candy-corn looking orange and yellow beak. Purple / teal / blue on the breast. never seen one, and it was less than an hour away!
this was the first image I snapped of our rare friend (and very rare in Maryland!) I ended up taking thousands of images, but I haven't gone through them yet! profile view of his orange and yellow-tipped beak, poking out from some reeds in his comfortable happy place (a swampy environment) however he's a bit off on lattitude.
