where are you supposed to stay when traveling? A corporate hotel which also backs the oligarchs or at someone’s place listed on Airbnb?

Wait and wait for that corporate profit to trickle on down or give more money today into someone like you’s pocket? Agree not ideal but I’ll take the latter…
think it’s more about just always avoiding those we know definitely are causing harm.
There are plenty of independent hotels everywhere.
agree but price plays a big factor
Find the hotel on booking, then ring them directly. Most hotels will give you the same deal which is a win for everyone - you get a good price and they don't have to pay bookings huge cut.
I know Airbnb are cheaper but you have no service nor any guarantee of quality.
Independent hotels and guest houses pay taxes.
yeah - and do not use booking.com

Like AirBnB and Expedia, they do business letting out stolen property in the W Bank. Independent places are the way to go. There are plenty in many places and I’ve never found them more expensive
Yep. Booking are scum. Sadly they are so ubiquitous these days, nearly all hotels are forced to use them or go out of business.
As I said, use booking to find the hotel but book directly with the establishment avoiding the platform. Most independent hotels will thank you for it

I tend to use booking.com to find a place and then try to book directly through their website. There are also various Airbnb alternatives
booking.com is a US company as well.. in the EU recommended alternatives are check24 and trivago.
