‘Celebrity’ ‘Authors’ - individual quotes

Maybe children’s books tend to be recommended by ‘adults’, promoted by people and newspapers with a financial interest and bought by their parents based on the author name? Just a thought and maybe something to discourage (not the book buying of course).

The one that annoys me the most is David "racist woman hater" Walliams. He always seems to have at least four in the charts.
It amazes me as well. When our kids were younger I did pick up and read one in a bookshop while they were foraging. Misogynist tripe - and that is being polite.
I might be romanticising but I really don't think it was a thing when I was a kid, for which I'm eternally grateful. I certainly never bought one for the small people in my life.
You have to wonder how popular they'd be if they had to compete on the merits of the actual story, rather than the wall-to-wall coverage they get in the press and the parents' appreciation of their non-writing work.
