One broch, two millennia, three murders. ‘Thicker Than Water’ is a compelling new murder mystery set in northern Scotland.

The fictional Sarclet Broch on the east coast of Caithness south of Wick is the hub around which much of the story revolves and it is where all three of the murders in the book take place. It is closely based on the Broch of Gurness in Orkney, shown in this image.

The image shows the interior of the remains of the dry stone circular central tower of the Broch of Gurness in Orkney, on which the fictional Sarclet Broch is closely based. The wall, rising to above doorway height, curves across the centre of the frame and this side of it is a collection of standing stone slabs arranged in an irregular pattern. The ground is covered in gravel, except for an irregular hearth area with a red surface in the foreground. The left part of the interior is in sunlight with the right in shadow. The front cover of ‘Thicker Than Water’ is shown in the bottom right corner.
