This one hit me hard:

"An exceptionally well-adapted autistic person resembles that imaginary creature, the mermaid, of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale. The mermaid, who was in love with the human prince, desired to take on human form, but could only do so at a considerable cost....."

"... She had to sacrifice her voice to gain legs but when she moved it was like walking on knives. As she was unable to communicate, those around her did not understand her true nature. This led to the prince marrying someone else, and to her own failure to gain a place in this world."

Yeah, sure but this was 1991.

We deprive ourselves of useful information if we dismiss a whole text because it doesn't fit our 2020s sensibilities.
Excuse me? I am afraid that his 'theories' haven't stayed in 1991. Thanks to the likes of Simon Baron-Cohen, they have marched right into the 2020s, along with Eugenics. Autism Speaks may have shut up shop in Canada, but afaik, not anywhere else they have gained a foothold. #ABAisEvil
Every country that has tipped over into Fascism, has policies that will persecute anyone who is neurodifferent, and discard those who aren't 'useful'. @anantagd @actuallyautistic
