i'd like to install linux (ubuntu, maybe?) on an old macbook air (circa mid-2012) that's on its last legs. can anyone point me to a good, basic tutorial (or just let me know if it's even feasible)? #linux #ubuntu #macOS #mac
Of course. I found Mint to be the most straightforward / user friendly for a total beginner. It did require some patience and a little bit of puzzle solving but fortunately you are absolutely in the right place! 😊
OK so annoyingly I can't find my start point but this is loosely where I started looking at things and where I started to get the foundation for it all....
There are some follow up ones that will be useful. If you search :
From:@TheBreadmonkey mint Linux (or just Linux) you should hopefully find what you're looking for. Good luck and don't forget to ask as there are loads of people here willing to help.
sincere thanks, ben, for taking the time to reply & provide such a detailed account. as i said elsewhere, it seems that linux offers myriad options. it's just a matter of choosing the right fit. how are you finding your mint experience thus far? thanks, again, for your help!
No problem at all. I am loving Mint, and the machines I'm running it on are basically like new. From my limited experience Mint seems to be the most entry level Linux distro, but everyone has varying opinions. To be honest it's not really *that* different from what you'll already be used to and it's pretty intuitive. As I said though - people here are super happy to help out, PARTICULARLY if they know Fedi has claimed another soul for their Linux overlords. And with the sheer number of ND people here, any issues you're faced with is just another fun puzzle for this community to solve!
that's all very reassuring - apart from, perhaps, the submission to overlords. is that compulsory? ;) it's just...unless i can run procreate & illustrator on linux, i'll have to have some apple remnants in my life.
that's grand. i'm pretty adept at finding alternatives, but it's always good to look to those with more experience. when it comes to illustrator & procreate alts, i've tried many & have yet to find any that i can get on with. :(
