I know someone on another forum who is looking for a #Facebook alternative. I mentioned #Friendica , and he seemed to be interested - even in self-hosting it for his friends group.

But I don't know much about Friendica, so I thought I'd ask for some #FediHelp . Are there any pointers you can give him, including what he needs to know for self-hosting? I will share the link to this post with him.

I run my own Friendica instance. I have no experience (or interest) in allowing other people to join it, but I would say install it via git, as that makes updating far less of a headache.

I humbly suggest locking it down if you intend others to use it, and remember that your friend will be the person held responsible for others' actions. "I just host it" didn't work for Pirate Bay either. 🤣
