Question: do I update my #Fediverse stock photo with this screenshot (it has the shortcut to #Friendica too)?

Disclaimer: Friendica & #Lemmy do not have official apps, so these are iOS shortcuts to URLs (of instances).

A reminder that this stock photo is for articles about the Fediverse, so it’s the most vanilla, KISS (Keep It Simple) version imaginable for people not familiar with the Fediverse. My *real* Fediverse folder has Ivory, Mona, Phanpy, Surf and Voyager.

Let me know your thoughts!
A screenshot of a smartphone screen (iOS) that shows a folder called Fediverse with the following icons: Friendica, Lemmy, Loops, Mastodon, PeerTube, Pixelfed
I don't find Lemmy in the PlayStore.

There are many apps for Lemmy (also from the official devs), it just doesn't have one that is named 'Lemmy'.

From what I've heard from other users (I don't use any apps myself), it's generally the case that the so-called ‘third-party apps’ are usually much better than the official ones.

Of course, it only makes sense to show the logos with the real names for such a stock photo.
@Elena Rossini ⁂
perhaps Loops should be looped in only when they have started federating?
@Jan Ainali @Elena Rossini ⁂ Are there any more precise announcements for the Federation of Loops in the meantime than ‘sometime’?
I wonder how to better display that these are not just new platforms and apps as we have known before. But that they all can talk to each other. That the Fediverse is a protocol and not an app. But hard to do that in a screenshot. Even to explain is difficult.
@Sascha Foerster @Elena Rossini ⁂ Yes true, I think the picture is great, but it might also reinforce the idea that you need all these apps to enter the Fediverse.
It's a common misconception that users coming from the Walled Gardens think they have to do something active to connect from Mastodon to Friendica etc. They can't even imagine that one account is enough to connect to (almost) everyone.
I have created an account on friendica two days ago. It is nice and promising.

One thing that I sorely miss from friendica is multifactor authentication 2FA.

IMHO it would be nice to include them, however we should ask them to implement multi-factor authentication and debug the client-side code more because I can't even easily add a photograph as an avatar

If you know how to add 2FA please tell me because I can't find it in the interface

As a client I use Raccoon

Is there official Lemmy app on Android? Can't seem to find one...
@RejZoR see above . There is an app developed by the Lemmy devs (is that the definition of ‘official’?), but it's not called 'Lemmy'. And probably other apps are more recommendable (I don't know because I don't use an app)

Heads-up: I updated my #Fediverse stock photo, adding #Friendica (since there have been so many discussions about it as an alternative to Facebook). Here we go: https://friendica-leipzig.de/photo/media/585422

A routine reminder that this is to illustrate articles about the Fediverse and it shows popular software as alternatives to Big Tech platforms.

special thanks to:
@matt who touched up my screenshot to improve the appearance of Friendica & Lemmy

@nacly who told me that Wikimedia Commons supports versioning

@nacly what app do you use for Friendica and Lemmy? I haven’t found a Friendica one as yet although managed to get my mastodon client to connect to the instance
@morebento @Matt × 🇳🇴 🇺🇦 @Pen @Elena Rossini ⁂ If you use Friendica with a Mastodon app, you only have the functions that Mastodon has. There are (at least) two apps specifically for #Friendica: #Raccoon and #Relatica , see https://promo.loma.ml/app.html

There are a lot of apps for Lemmy. It's maybe a matter of taste which one suits you best.
@nacly Are #friendica apps intended merely for mobile devices? Do they work also as alternative front-ends in desktop browsers?
@Droppie [infosec] 🐨 #Raccoon is only an app for Android. In the overview the others are under the category ‘Web App/ Desktop App’. But as far as I know, #Relatica is the only one that offers the range of functions of #Friendica. The others may only have the functions of Mastodon .

Web APP/Desktop APP: Phanpy, Soapbox, TheDesk, Relatica, Trunks, Sengi et al.

There are also ways to run Android apps on desktop, but I don't know if it's worth the effort.

I'm very happy with the WebApp. There's already a new theme, and I'm sure more will follow soon if a few frontend devs are interested in Friendica.

@nacly

Is there an alternative to #Reddit ?

I had heard it might be Lemmy but then I heard some sketchy things about the people behind it.
@KB Sez Yes, this affects the devs and their instances. However, this has no effect on the well-moderated Lemmy instances.
There is also #Piefed and mbin as an alternative. #Mbin is a mixture of forum structure and microblog.
