Officially ISIS has never successfully done a terrorism in the US. I always figured the fort hood incident should probably get counted, especially given that it seemed to align with strategic goals of ISIS and Al qaeda at the time and notably attacked US military members who'd participated in Iraq and Afghanistan.

So if fort hood didn't get counted as ISIS... why consider the New Orleans vet guy ISIS? He seems to presently present less strategic connection than fort hood did.

Regardless, feels like the media is going to make a big deal out of these two US veterans (and leave out the fact they were both US vets) just to gin up how the big scary terrorist are after CEOs & your family too.

When in reality we'd all be safer if the country just put down the genocide for a split second and maybe stop sending all the US vets to "anti"-terror training that just seems to be turning them into the next mass shooter.

This was mostly a sub-toot on the first round of news headlines I saw about these being connected incidents... which feels far fetched still.

There's been some more news that came out less than an hour ago that seems to make the Vegas situation clearly not an accident.

The driver reportedly killed themselves then the cybertruck exploded.

It doesn't seem like there was shrapnel so still seems pretty odd if this was meant as a terror attack.

In unrelated news I couldn't help but noticed that Elon Musk has been beefing for weeks with Trumps more neo-nazi leaning fans over Elon's support of H1B visa programs. Musk is a fan of the program that allows him greater control over skilled employees including the ability to suppress wages. The far right folks want total xenophobia. Musk started kicking them off twitter for disagreeing with him. Trump eventually sided with Musk.

While I doubt the Trump / Elon / Far right debate was the cause of the Vegas incident given the timeline it does point to there being a multitude of things the far right could be in fighting over and not be connected to international Islamic terror plots which is the US media's reflexive story line.

The other thing that I doubt the media is going to talk thoughtfully about is the fact a fire arm was used in Vegas and Orleans.

In the case of Vegas he bought two guns ONE day prior to the attack(no waiting or holding periods, and fast or no background check).

Under the strictest US gun control laws BOTH attackers will still be able to get any guns they want because one was active duty military and the other was a vet, two groups who gun control doesn't apply to even under most WA gun laws.

A friend of mine was dodging bullets at a concert back in 2023, shots fired by yet another active duty US soldier over a domestic dispute.

I'm not in favor of any gun laws that have grandfather clauses or provide exemptions to cops and military. This shit is why.

DemocracyNow just posted some excellent reporting on both the Vegas and New Orleans military vet's turned terrorists.

They mentioned a tidbit I'd missed, which is that in the start of these incidents President elect Orange demon Trump said Biden's policies let in illegal aliens who were destabilizing our country. Shortly after it was discovered both assailants were ex military.

Surely Trump will post a retraction, right?
