Tankies & Campists (TCs) were fully in on the Assad dictatorship till he ran away.

While many of us saw him as evil, who was only doing whatever little he needed to do to save his rotten regime — and support those who saved his criminal regime, TCs on the otherhand were fully pushing propaganda for him.

Even if Empire–Entity–West–Turkey imperial combine harms Syrian society more, whether it gets worse for Syrians or not (no one knows either ways — likely a puppet for Western Imperialism/Entity–Empire–Turkey combine would likely make it worse), TCs can't be right as they had no way of knowing anyways. They were simply shilling for their favorite camp & telling everyone criticism of Assad is nothing but being in the enemy camp, till he fell.

In Syria, we now have one authoritarian regime replaced by an Imperial propped-up reactionary mercenary force — former Al-Qaeda (not sure about the overall composition), all being normalized by imperial propaganda mouthpieces as of now i.e CNN, BBC, … on the instruction of Western political bosses. TCs are simply stuck in power equations from Imperial point of view (or rank opportunism or both), always looking at the world from the point of view of power centers, rather than looking at the situation from those at the bottom, from each society's point of view in isolation & building the network from there, then viewing the equation from power centres point of view. Thier politics of Top–Down only allows them to do only power center view (in the bestcase) rather than starting from Bottom-Up view & then looking at all variables.

In a world controlled by those in power, massive power centres, when its as bloody as civil war, I am not sure the choices will ever be anything but series of compromises — at best compromising with lesser evil (from one's limited context rather than broader context — both Rojava & Hezbollah made same deals with the devil for their own survival). Incase of Rojava (so far as my limited understanding goes), for protecting their revolution, where as in case of Hezbollah (so far as my limited understanding goes) did it for protecting the only source that were willing to help them against Zionist occupation (did lot of awful shit on Assad's behalf against Syrians for getting that support).

In any case, tankies & campists (TCs) propped up Assad as the saviour despite a bloody slaughter of Syrians he oversaw for more than a decade with sectarian help. They are singing a different tune now. They might change the tune later if some other variable changes with: See, I told you sort of unprincipled positions, when no one has anyway of knowing what Genocidal Imperialism does. Will Western Imperialism convert Syria into another Libya? Who knows?

Only thing we know for sure is this:

They never cared about anything but Genocidal Imperial interests.

regardless, ppl who simped for Assad can claim no vindication at all. His papa's coup was mainly aimed at repressing the left (incl in his own party) & Assad père & fils spent decades jailing, torturing & exiling leftists, the most genuine advocates of anti-imperialism. Bachar showed more clemency for djihadists than for leftists but don't expect the campists now mourning the collapse of Captagon Communism to draw any lessons from that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

yeah yeah, sure sure.

Captagon was being produced & smuggled by the Assad family & its entourage. Who consumes it was entirely immaterial to my point.

And btw what "leftist" worth shit in a handbag blames ppl suffering from substance abuse & not the criminal kleptocrat who's funding his lifestyle from their habit?

But then the campists now so nostalgic for "Saydnaya Socialism" have spent years blaming victims so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
tweet by Omar Dahi, Syrian-born and -raised scholar:

"Thinking about my dad tonight with the freeing of Saydnaya prisoners. In the 90s he helped smuggle out names of all political prisoners there just so their families would know they’re alive. Most accused of belonging to League of Communist Labor"

"Captagon was being produced & smuggled by the Assad family & its entourage." @PariaSansPortefeuille Cite that or stfu.

Ps. The White Helmets and their agitprop operation are NOT a credible source.

you omit to mention she's the editor of this:
https://www.seuil.com/ouvrage/le-livre-noir-de-gaza-agnes-levallois/9782021571806

& that she's not even the author of the article I linked to (by a Syrian exile), nor of any of its sources.

As for the risible Maté article, the "study" (lol) is self-published by 1 of the authors, a veteran of IDF Intelligence (lol) and "angel investor" & another author (Kobs) was busted making nazi-like tweets in the "Jews control the world" vein.
