The pattern for politicians nowadays is:
1. People complain loudly for years about an issue.
2. Government sets up a Royal Commission to investigate.
3. Royal Commission comes back with a bunch of fairly sensible recommendations.
4. Government ignores every single one of them.

Just received the 'please vote for me' email from my local (Labor) MP.

I replied, politely explaining that I cannot vote for him because his government has chosen not to take any action in response to the recommendations from Peta Murphy's gambling inquiry

"The government’s carve-out for the salmon industry means the environment is more poorly protected at the end of its three-year term than it was at the start of it. ... In case you missed it, the government has introduced amendments to the national nature protection law that sideline the environment minister and effectively terminate a review of the impact foreign-owned salmon farming companies are having on the endangered Maugean skate and the adjacent world heritage area on Tasmania’s west coast." Just a reminder, election campaigning is a lie-fest.

Don't listen to a word they say. Instead look at how they voted on issues in the past, what bills they introduced in the past. THAT is who they are. Not what they're saying now. #AusPol #AusVotes #AusVotes2025 #MayThe3rdBeWithYou

Gazette News has been cleared over what its CEO calls a “nasty political stunt” by Coalition Senator Jane Hume, who complained to the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) in relation to the start-ups coverage of independent political candidates.

Why isn’t #Deakin , which is currently held by the Libs on a margin of 0.2%, recognised with more than a mention in this list of key electorates?

Our representative has distinguished himself repeatedly by his willingness to perform all manner of dirty work in support of his party, without regard to his personal reputation or whatever ethics he may have, while maintaining a facade of smarmy respectability (reminds me wierdly of George Pell in this respect). As I recall, Sukkar won last time by something like 304 votes?

Surely the good people of Deakin can do better this time.

Like many voters I am bitterly disappointed in the Albanese government for maintaining our political ‘normal’ of plunder the planet, enrich the wealthy, screw the poor, when they could have empowered the wealth of talent within their ranks to develop & implement a responsible policy agenda. But I would NEVER preference the Libs 🤡🎪🎡 ahead of Labor. #AusPol

If we're really lucky, Space Karen and the other Maga trolls will be distracted by the Canadian election to be held 5 days before our own, and if/when they realise we're having one too, they'll just assume that their Liberal Party and ours are the same thing

It is not #Labor induced cost of living crisis, but from the seeds sown during the last 9 years of #LyingNastyParasites being in power. #Labor inherited almost 1 trillion debt which has been reduced a lot by their management.

#FuelExcise cut for 12 months? Sounds good, but is not solving the structural problems or ensuring a better future.

The #Nuclear power proposal will take decades to come and double energy prices. And be an enormous burden on our economy. And where is the water coming from? There isn't enough.

United States are joke. Their infosec is a joke.

ASD, ASIS, NOA, bug everyone one of them on home soil. (If you're not already, which I'm sure you already are.)

We'll learn more about our potential enemies plans than our so-called allies, along with US incompetence and points of exploitation.

Which is looking increasingly handy.

It won't stop Peter Dutton's populist campaign of blaming immigrants for housing but in factual terms the unusually large jump in housing costs wasn't matched with an unusually large jump in population. #auspol https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2025/mar/27/peter-dutton-keeps-blaming-migration-for-the-housing-crisis-but-can-it-really-be-that-simple

Trade in a time of genocide. Our exports to Israel growing fast

The sad thing about #Australia is that in the upcoming federal election this will not be the election issue it should be.

"In defiance of international rulings to boycott Israel for its ongoing violence and brutal occupation of Palestinian lands, Australia’s exports to Israel have increased by 20% in 12 months."

Must admit it's annoying when Turnbull is much braver out of power than he was when *in* power, but I don't think former PMs should necessarily shut up; they do have an insight into politics at the highest level. I exempt of course the incompetents Abbott and Morrison, who can stay in the sea.

(By crikey there are *so many* former PMs still living: Keating, Howard, Rudd, Gillard, Abbott, Turnbull, Morrison. It's a lot.)
