I've been wondering: Where does the expression “dropping an album" actually come from?

I have to admit that I take exception to this particular figure of speech.

I don't “drop an album”.

When I release an #album, I (usually) put work and heart and soul into it. It's precious to me and it sure as f is not something I simply "drop" and I also don't want it treated like something I "dropped" (though sadly that's what often happens).

Maybe I'm overreacting but My. Albums. Don't. Get. Dropped.

"Cocaine Wheelchair" would make an awesome album title. Can't decide whether it suits rock / metal / trance or avant-garde jazz though...
