Tuesday is another bright & sunny day here in deepest, darkest Yorkshire. It’s a bit cold at the moment - just over 6ºC, but the temps are due to climb to the low teens later so I will once more be out in the gravel pit - not too far to go now on the cleaning side, I can see the bottom of the bulk bag now.

Tuesday hey, this what happens when you allow Monday to get away with mugging Sunday! 😜
It’s a bright & sunny day but very cold, just above freezing when I came down earlier with a high of 9ºC forecast later.
Another day of resting (pawsing?) the paws today, in an effort to get them ready for a concerted push on Thursday & finishing getting the gravel into the reed bed filter.

Well it’s a lovely sunny Saturday morning here in deepest, darkest Yorkshire. Although it’s flipping cold still! There’s rumours of warmer temps next week which will be very welcome!
Mrs S has gone to do the shopping & then on to see her mum, the cats are asleep upstairs after an exhausting hour or two while they had breakfast. Peace reigns!
Might get out & do some more gravel cleaning later but for now I’m finishing my coffee & enjoying the solitude.

Monday started at just before 7am.
Breakfast was followed by some chores that couldn’t wait & then it was back out to the filter bed.
So todays progress:
*Water feed pipework reinstalled.
*About a ⅓ of the gravel cleaned, enough to cover the pipework.
*Trusty stress ball relieved of plugging duty & is back indoors drying out.
*Pump running again & water flow restored.
There are a couple more days of gravel cleaning to go, although it might take longer as the temperatures are due to fall significantly over the next week or so! Also there are a couple of rainy days forecast & I hate working outdoors in the rain!
At some point I will have to replant the filter bed to get the full power of the reed bed back up & running.
A naughty pizza for tea, I need to get back onto something like a decent diet or all this hard work won’t be reflected in my waistline!
Final Thoughts.
Quite pleased with my progress today, although I did have to stamp down hard on myself when I started hyper focusing on getting the pipework routed just so - sometimes I can get too fixated on one aspect of a job to the detriment of the project as a whole. At least now I know I’m doing it & why I’m doing it which goes a long way to being able to correct such behaviours!

Thursday is upon us like an eager kitten clawing at the bottom of the curtain of the weekend!
The sun is out, my chores are done & the 2 new units are still standing - a testament to the power of an electric screwdriver & a good bash with a pin hammer!
Today holds the promise of cleaning the coffee maker & descaling it, since the warning light is lit.
But first there is the prospect of a cup of tea - I might go wild & make a china rose tea - my fave but it does need steeping for a little while.

Snow day 4, we are down to eggs of unknown origin, maybe dinosaur eggs, maybe…
Clean out of lemon soaked napkins, & I swear I saw a penguin earlier! (Maybe the eggs were penguin eggs?)
There is a lone seagull that keeps hovering over our house like a vulture, I’m sure he’s waiting for me venture out & then snaffle me to feed his 16 hungry chicks!
Sophie & Alice heard about the sleigh pulling plan,they were not amused, I’m still looking for what’s left of the sleigh!
It’s possible that cabin(et) fever has now got a through hold of me! (Cue maniacal laugh!)
16:39 we have an energy saving session this evening between 5 & 6pm so I am turning off all that can be turned off!
18:05 Yay we spent the last hour in candle light reading our ebooks & generally using as little electric as possible!

Christmas Day started really early, with Oliver & Issac next door going nuts over Christmas in the way that only young children know how!
I fought against getting up until nearly 8am then wandered downstairs to make breakfast.
Mrs S & I swapped presents & then settled down to watch ‘That Christmas’ which was not at all bad.
We went out for a late Christmas lunch at a Toby Inn with Mrs S’s mum.
To say it was a very average experience is the understatement of the year! We arrived on the dot of 3pm when our table was booked, it took them 20 minutes to bring drinks & then another 20 minutes before starters arrived!
It took then ages to serve the main course too, another group of folk gave up in the end & just left, but we persevered & finally got served.
It’s a shame they were so very dilatory because it was a nice afternoon otherwise.
Got home just after 6:30pm after dropping my MiL back at home.
Watched ‘Die Hard with a Vengence’ this evening which was a nice way to end the day.
Let just say that Toby Inns are off next year’s Christmas list & indeed our list of eateries full stop.

I’ve still not had an alcoholic drink this holiday because Geoff has been whining a little & I didn’t want to upset him too much! But tomorrow might see me having a couple of ciders in the evening! One can take this tea totalling thing too far!

Friday started just before 7am when Mrs S woke me up because of a tripped breaker.
Seems the iron might be to blame. Must check it out!
Reset the breaker & made sure everything was working then got my breakfast & caught up on here.
Did my chores & then settled down to continue the NMS Adrift Redux expedition with @PlaystationPixy and @Nio . I don’t know if I will finish this one, I have the new season on FO76 in progress too & there are some nice goodies with that one - I have all the goodies from the original Adrift expedition earlier this year.
Played DL2 this afternoon, only died once, which is an improvement! Again I need to learn to dodge & not box myself in.
Friday is pizza day, so I had a meat feast just to wind Geoff up a little.

I had an easier day today with the whole peopling thing. Hopefully this will continue!

Got up around 8am but the stormy weather last night led to a disturbed night’s sleep.
Storm Darragh gave his all last night! It’s been a while since we have have a blow that hard.
Sunday is wet & windy, but the gusts are nearer 40mph than 60mph as they were over night!
Made us breakfast & cleaned up.
Spent the morning finishing off the NMS Omega Redux expedition with @Pixy , & @Nio
Spent the afternoon catching up on a couple of TV series.
@Pixy led me astray with tales of Chinese takeaway so we ended up having one for tea!
It went well with watching ‘The Green Book’ which is a most excellent movie!

Friday was hard to get an initial grip of this morning. I woke around 07:30 but it took me ages to get up & get breakfast. I was tired & fuzzy headed despite having a decent nights sleep.
I went back to bed & listened to a chapter of my audio book - am totally loving the whole experience. It helps that it’s a story I know well so when I get distracted or snooze I don’t have to rewind & play the whole chapter again!
I finally got my act into gear around 9am.
I did my chores & ended up losing myself in virtual worlds.
We had pizza for tea, I had another calzone this one a donner one with onions, mushrooms & garlic.
A good third of the calzone is left over for tomorrow’s lunch!

I am struggling to get my brain in gear at the moment, I wonder if it’s the meds.
Apropos to nothing I’m fast coming to the conclusion that keeping up to speed with the news is just a really good way to get depressed! The world is going to hell in a hand basket & there seems nothing anyone can do to stop it!

I read today that Terry Pratchett’s ‘Night Watch’ is to be made a Penguin ‘Modern Classic’ next year, I need to make a note somewhere to make sure I get a copy of the new edition! Anyway it inspired me to focus my search for tonight’s quote on that brilliant book!

Diary of an ASD Squirrel. Day 379 , Sunday 10/11/2024 Sunday started around 07:45 because I was an awake & there seemed little point staying in bed. Made breakfast & cleaned up then watched a Bettany Hughes history thing with Mrs S.beige.party
Got up just after 7am as I had to call the doctors surgery bang on 8am to see if I could get a GP’s appointment for sometime today.
Called at 1 second past 8 & was 3rd in the queue!
Managed to get on the list for a phone appointment - ‘some time this morning’. The Dr finally called around 12:15pm !
Did my chores & gave the dishwasher its monthly maintenance clean.
Finished off the morning playing NMS (they are running a heavily cut down version of Expedition 2 for the next 2 weeks) with one ear on the game & one ear listening for the phone!
Simon (the AWOL plumber) called around 11:30 to say he would be over just after lunch.
Had a bag of crisps with a cherry juice for lunch in anticipation of a pizza that never came.
Played a little more NMS , finished the first of 5 phases.
Simon rolled up at around 15:30 & we got the job the job sorted together - my back is gonna hate me tomorrow there was stretching & bending & all kinds of stuff it likes to bitch about!
So hopefully that is the central heating sorted for this year - it was in desperate need of a clean, but now I know how to do it ‘properly’ it won’t have to cost the better side of 200 quid next time!
Simon thinks he’s coming back next year but I’m seriously considering finding a new plumber.
It’s not even the delay that really pisses me off, although if I was working then that would be more of an issue, it’s the lack of communication, a text or a phone call costs nothing.
An apology would be nice too.
So Mrs S has a gob on with the pizza place we use so we had to have a Chinese on pizza night. Hey ho.
We’ve started binge watching an old Trevor Eve series - ‘Waking the Dead’ the pilot was not bad if a little dated!

I’m too relaxed with folk &, unless they have gone truly beyond the pale , I let them get away with murder!
