The humid air of the cape, which had overly embraced us to-day, began off the coast to consider greater ambitions. It would seek us out to-night for wet kisses and sudden discharges of electric energy. I feared for Ophelie in her barn loft, but reminded myself that the barn animals have always been safe there, and she would be as well.

The reason 19th century dresses had white collars and white cuffs is that … they didn't! These are undergarments turned over the edges. #19thcentury dresses needed to be dry-cleaned before practical dry-cleaning existed.

Much underclothing was used to keep dresses from contact with skin; working women wore aprons to protect the fronts. At the end of the day, dresses were hung up and brushed lightly.

I told my mom I wanted a Victorian Christmas and she’s been hard at work to make it happen🥹💕She made mince pies, Linzer tarts, chocolate chip & sugar cookies. We’ve got Charles Dickens’ Punch to be made later today too! I’ve never had a mince pie or a Christmas pudding so that’s on the menu. Also making Charles Dickens’ Punch recipe soon😋
