🌍 Common whitethroat (Curruca communis)

The common whitethroat, or greater whitethroat, is a small warbler with a grey head, white throat, and brownish-streaked back. Males display a brighter throat and pinkish breast, especially during breeding. They are found across Europe and temperate western Asia, favoring scrubland, hedgerows, and farmland edges. Their distribution shifts south into Africa for the winter months. Whitethroats are active, often seen flitting through bushes, catching insects. Their song is a scratchy, chattering warble, often delivered from a prominent perch. Four subspecies are recognised.

Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1)
