We’ve been covering an invitation by Germany’s next likely chancellor for Netanyahu to visit the country despite the ICC arrest warrant against him.
Jan van Aken, the co-leader of Germany’s The Left party, labelled Friedrich Merz’s invitation a “disaster” and accused him of “double standards”.
“Of course, if Netanyahu comes to Germany, he would have to be arrested, that’s international law,” van Aken said.
“If Vladimir Putin comes to Germany, then this arrest warrant must be implemented. The same applies to Netanyahu,” he added, referring to the ICC’s arrest warrant for the Russian leader over the deportation of Ukrainian children."
