Watching this in the background now: it's an excellent video. The reality though is for domestic/retail horitcukturalists (certainly in the UK) it's incredibly difficult to get the kit needed to test your soil chemistry. Then you need to understand what the results mean.

I add compost regularly to my garden - and am working hard to try to get organic matter in as we've got sandy soils. But how mush is enough and what else should I do? Etc. So fascinating stuff.

I don’t know about the UK, but in the US there are university and some government agricultural bodies called extensions and we can send them a sample of our soil for analysis or get a testing kit for a relatively cheap price. Here’s a link the Rutgers U program:

I didn't know if the UK has extension offices, but in the US they're currently attached to our colleges and help the home gardener and farmer alike with education and tools.
One of the things I hope to accomplish with this degree in soil science is to develop home horticulturist training material as well as teach it to whomever will listen
Sadly the Uk does not have such a service, certainly not available to Joe Public. Plus I live in #Jersey and we definitely don't have such a service there! I will up my knowledge for sure. Those Pak Choi plants are inspirational 😀
No drama! Seriously. It's a tiny place - 9 X 5 miles, with c100k people. Absolutely no reason why anyone shoould have heard of it. I was barely aware of it's existence before I moved there, and I'm a Brit...

It is lovely: we have a really nice marine micro-climate that protects us from the worst of cold weather. And - as those who follow me will be bored of hearing - an unlimited supply of seaweed for fertilister, which is about as good as it gets in my view. #Gardening
Ah but for those of us Brits of a certain age, Jersey will always be associated with a TV detective series from the 80's set on the island - Bergerac. Lots of glamour and yachts....

(Which I gather has just had a reboot...)
Yes! Folks have been going mad locally to try to get a stand in part. A mate of mine was an entry level copper and made an appearance in I think the last episode 30+ years ago.
