I need to pay greater attention too, but mostly I don't buy anything from Bezos, shop locally wherever possible from small businesses (I admit this is a luxury) and check labels. As far as tech is concerned, I always buy second-hand/reconditioned, so while I may own a Mac, Apple didn't actually get any of my money. Second hand is a good way to go in general. Amazing what you can get from charity shops - my whole house was furnished and kitted out that way when I was super poor.
tres bien. this is exactly what i'm doing. just need to pay more attention to parent companies when buying food & drink - although, i already avoid a lot of the shittiest biggies by being vegan.
Yeah, food is a big one that's more difficult to withdraw from (although like you it's easier for me as a veggie and having a couple of farm shops a few minutes' walk from my house). Cleaning products and shampoo etc are harder, particularly when budget is a factor (as it is for all of us these days). Even some of the so-called "eco" brands are owned by bigger multinationals. There's a website that details all of this but I can't remember what it is atm 🤦♀️ 😂
@fkamiah17@syzito.xyz@syzito.xyz the ethical consumer is a pretty good resource. don't know if that's the website you meant. i use peace with the wild for eco & plastic-free household cleaning & toiletries, but i know that's not an option for everyone.
They're one of the ones I use too! There seems to have been some controversy about bamboo not being as eco as previously thought, which is annoying. Same with Ecover.
i was just reading their most recent article re bog roll & am happy to report that cheeky panda is still highly rated. i've hated ecover for decades, 'cause they fibbed about their animal testing policy. they've just got worse, i see. neat is my preferred household cleaning brand (apart from their refillable bottles being made of recycled plastic), but i also use a tonne of marseille soap for just about everything.
