Anne Applebaum in The Atlantic about the ongoing coup in the #usa to transform the country into a Putinesque dictatorship.

In my view, it’s based on the destruction of law, of the power of judiciary. This is how the executive will be left with absolute power, by ignoring law. And this is effective because the society is conditioned to think of law as an effective tool of resistance. Just that criminals and fascists don’t accept the law in the first place.

The law has no power in itself. This power comes from acceptance - and from law enforcement. And the latter is the job of the executive.

But if the executive rejects the idea that it is bound to law itself, then the power of law breaks down and all that is left is the power of the executive. Which is: dictatorship.

The final step would be to break the power of the voter. This is not the first priority, they have four years for this. #trump has announced this also in advance btw.
