Progressive socialism anyone?

"If a General Election were held tomorrow, 29% of UK [= England] voters would choose Reform [UK], 23% Labour and 21% the Tories."

"This would give Reform UK a narrow majority with 333 seats, and Labour would plummet to 88, losing 323 of their current MPs."

"The speech contained brief references to Scotland ...including an existing funding deal for Glasgow announced by the Tories and the apparent benefits that expanding Heathrow would have for Scottish exports.

"But the SNP's economy spokesperson Dave Doogan pointed out that the announcement contained "nothing for Scotland" while promising significant investment for parts of England."

"King Charles will pay a visit to a Scottish food bank later this week.

"The monarch will touch down in Clackmannanshire on Thursday, January 16 to mark the first visit from the head of the royal family to the area in nearly 30 years."

Burns got it right.

He wrote this wonderful verse more than two centuries ago - yet we're still having abject parasites like Toby Young imposed on us.

"Ye see yon birkie ca’d a lord,
Wha struts, an’ stares, an’ a’ that,
Tho’ hundreds worship at his word,
He’s but a coof for a’ that.
For a’ that, an’ a’ that,
His ribband, star, an’ a’ that,
The man o’ independent mind,
He looks an’ laughs at a’ that."

"If Scottish independence meant that Scotland would be a republic - meaning the King would no longer be the head of state, so Scotland’s governance would be fully democratic and not a monarchy - how would you vote if there were an independence referendum tomorrow?

"Republicanism moves independence support from 54% in the same poll to 59%."

Two pie charts derived from most recent Norstat poll.

1: Should Scotland be an independent country? 54% agree

2: Should Scotland be an independent republic? *59%* agree.

Keith sneeringly let the cat out the bag at #PMQs.

His two-child cap rape-clause winter fuel benefit binning #LabourFriendsOfGenocide #OptionalIdentityMark MPs in Scottish seats are, in his view, the only "government" which represents the best interests of the Scottish people.

So screw devolution, screw Holyrood, screw you.

"If the new poll showing support for [Scottish] independence at 54% had been conducted by one of the polling firms that typically show better results for Yes, such as Ipsos or FindOutNow, it would have looked encouraging but not out of the ordinary.

"But given that it's a Norstat poll, it's an absolute bolt from the blue, and a possible indication of a major breakthrough."

- James Kelly in The National.

"The problem for the Unionist camp is that everyone knows the only possible alternatives to a Labour government in London would be extremely right-wing – either a return to Tory rule under Kemi Badenoch, or the first-ever Reform UK government under Nigel Farage.

"Both of those possibilities would be horrifying to most left-leaning or even centrist voters in Scotland, so essentially all the Unionist eggs are in a single Labour basket.

"If Starmer fails to impress, voters are bound to work out by a process of elimination that independence is the sole option remaining for a brighter future under a progressive government.

"There certainly seems to be a correlation in the Norstat poll between the increase in support for independence and the loss of confidence in Labour. "

"Sue Gray has [reportedly] rejected the role of “envoy to the nations and regions” in Keir Starmer’s government.

"The Labour leader’s former chief of staff had been offered the position as something of a consolation after she was forced to resign amid bitter infighting in Number 10."

I'm heading home after a night out in Glasgow. Travelling free by bus.

40% of the population of Scotland can do the same. Not thanks to the largesse of our imperial masters in London, but by a deliberate political choice of our elected devolved government and Parliament.

If you're in England, I urge you to think why I or my friends or family can do this - and you can't.

When you figure that out, you'll have figured out why this "Union" is a pile of shite.
