With the advancement of consumer technology, outdated media tech is just no longer manufactured, or if it is, it's just not up to the same standard it used to be held.
It makes sense after all, especially in a capitalist society.
I do hope that more people pursue the tech that lasts longer, is durable, and is fixable.
