I am almost terrified to show that moment to my Cajun fiancee. 😂 I imagine it will be similar to the horror we Scots felt when an Australian was picked to play William Wallace in Braveheart.

Channing Tatum is from that region of the country and is actually using a very thick, but realistic Cajun accent. When that other guy did it they scaled back everything including his accent, to be safe and so people understood him. That's the joke.

That other guy?
Im still developing me ear for Cajun thanks to years of the X-Men cartoon in my brain skewing things. I really wasn’t sure what to make of this new version’s accent.
They did the same thing with him as they did with all the x men movie characters. They dialed him back. Make him kind of generic. So because Channing Tatum grew up in that area with people with actual accents that can't be understood by the average person that isn't from there he turned it up to a place where he also can't be understood by the average person. So, it's both authentic, and ridiculous
Remy LeBeau, also known as Gambit, is a mutant who can generate and manipulate energy. Remy LeBeau was William Stryker's prisoner on Three Mile Island for two years. He earned the nickname "Gambit" from his guards as he kept beating them in poker.

my husband said they pushed it to the point of parody, which is why it sounded so outrageous. He didn't mind though, we got the joke. 😆 Let's face it, minority characters in the comics are often pretty hammed up 😄

Ahh, ok. It did sound different but if he’s hamming it up for effect that explains it. And like your husband, Zalka, I was an exceedingly happy bunny when he appeared. 🤩
Reminds me of the similar-but-not-quite smart-jokey use of Scottish Doric in Brave, by Kevin McKidd who played Young MacGuffin. To everyone not familiar with Doric (just about everybody outside of the north-east of Scotland) he’s speaking gibberish but if you understand Doric, as I do, you understand him fine. I was sat in the cinema wondering why everyone else was laughing, lol.

Ha! I have two picture books in Doric, I got them from a storyteller friend when I was in Scotland. It looks like gibberish, but when you read them out loud, it kinda starts making sense 😆 Couldn't follow it by ear though.

ohmygoodness, no wayyy! You’re the first person I’ve met on the Fedi that’s acquainted with it, and you’re Hungarian!
I’ve been teaching it to my fiancee. Bosie is one of the best words ever invented (hug, for anyone else reading). And once you comprehend that “Fit fit fits fit fit” is an actual sentence in Doric, you’ve taken a whole new step into a larger world.
