It's why I don't subscribe to Netflix, Prime, etc.; because I know I'll get invested and after two years, it will be yanked.
(I forget the exact details, but there is something about passing the two year mark that the studios are required to pay more to the creatives or pass on profits, or similar. Rather than than do that, they cancel the show.)
I miss the heartbreak by not watching, but I also miss the cultural references & social bonding, so not sure it's a complete win.
It used to be, they put it on TV, they had ads, you watched the ads. Maybe you bought stuff, but they were sure you saw the ads. Now, you either pay for streaming or pirate, but there are no ads, how do they make the money then? Well, the YouTubers and such post videos about the shows, people watch them, the ads are part of it, in the content. So, if people aren't watching videos about the shows, they get canceled. Doesn't matter who watches the shows, at all.

Well, the YouTubers and such post videos about the shows, people watch them, the ads are part of it, in the content.
So, if people aren't watching videos about the shows, they get canceled.
Doesn't matter who watches the shows, at all.
