Hi, I'm a storyteller and here is today's #StorytellingPSA:

No, there is no "original" primary source on Greek mythology that has Persephone walking into the Underworld willingly. Sorry, Tumblr.

#mythology #storytelling #MythologyMonday
does she willingly fall in love with Hades though?

We should probably declare “writing a modern woman’s sense of agency into Greek myths” as a new literary genre.
I'd say that is up to interpretation. In the Homeric Hymn to Demeter she does lie and tell her mother that Hades forced her to eat the pomegranate seeds when this is not the case earlier in the text. So it's possible she ate them willingly. But the version where Persephone goes to the underworld of her own accord is a neopagan fiction from the 70s. There is a paper I highly recommend, I hope I remember when I get home.

Yeah, that's really unlikely. Everyone knows she had a Tesla.
I beg to differ.
The Xena version is clearly canon.
and it now qualifies as ancient 🤣
