Today's #MythologyMonday theme is metalworking. Coincidentally I was digging into the myth of Hephaestos, and came up with some tidbits.

When Zeus threw Hephaestos off Olympos (to punish him for trying to shield Hera from his wrath), the blacksmith god landed on the island of Lemnos and broke his leg.

The fun bit is, apparently the island was inhabited by fearsome pirates. They nursed Hephaestos back to health and gave him a home.

I want "Hephaestos and the pirates" to be a thing 😄

Heh. In my steampunky fantasy *Revin's Heart*, one of the premier scientists ("The Professor") has become the pirate's chief engineer to keep their airship running. Revin only discovers this when they travel together on a secret mission and he is astonished when every scientist and academic they meet immediately recognizes the Professor — nonwithstanding the fact that he was born without legs and uses arm-braces. https://waterdragonpublishing.com/product/revins-heart/
