1. What "emergency" would that be again?

2. 🙄

Bloomberg:

"Exclusive: Members of Donald #Trump’s incoming economic team are discussing slowly ramping up #tariffs month by month, a gradual approach aimed at boosting negotiating leverage while helping avoid a spike in inflation:

Trump Team Studies Gradual Tariff Hikes Under Emergency Powers

Plan would boost import duties 2%-5% a month on trade partners

Supporters include Trump advisers Bessent, Hassett and Miran"

2-5% a month is an annualized 25-60+% of inflation.

I don’t think they understand math.
This is about the only way to make a tariff even worse. If I sign an order for overseas goods, now I have no idea which tariff level I’ll be charged, because who knows which month the paperwork is going to land in. Do they even talk to accountants or economists before they have an idea and spew it? (That’s known as a rhetorical question, btw)
