A small very rounded bird with a rusty brown top and buffy underside, a short straight bill and upward pointed perky tail stands on a cut log. Its chin is lighter colored than the underside and it has a white stripe leading backward from above the dark eye. The wings and tail have hatched check markings.

They have charming songs and I love how they flit all about, but they are right little bastards. Have seen them peck eggs of other bird’s nests and they will make and defend dummy nests all over the yard not allowing anything to come close.
