"An #AI #chatbot called “#FungiFriend” was added to a popular mushroom identification Facebook group Tuesday. It then told users there how to “sauté in butter” a potentially dangerous mushroom, signaling again the high level of risk that AI #chatbots and tools pose to people who forage for #mushrooms."

Hi everyone. I’ve been a rubbish poster for ages but will try harder! Anyways, here are my pet oyster mushrooms (now harvested and VERY tasty) #fungi #GrowYourOwn #mushrooms

After MRI I grabbed a sandwich & cookie then headed into woods to explore.

For #FungiFriday, here is a picture of Fomes Fomentarius, commonly known as the Tinder Fungus or Hoof Fungus. It boasts a rich history as a fire starter, in textile crafting, and in medicinal use. Ötzi, the Iceman, carried this fungus with him 5,000 years ago. The Tinder Fungus surely held cultural significance; it's known to have been carried as a lucky charm. Unfortunately, I'm unaware of any specific #Folklore tied to it. Anyone in the know?

Here's a fun Hungarian folktale about the origin of #mushrooms:

When Jesus and St. Peter walked the earth Jesus sent Peter to a house to ask for some flat bread. Peter took an extra piece and hid it in his pocket. As they walked on he kept nibbling in secret, walking behind Jesus.
However, every time he took a bite, Jesus asked a question, and Peter had to spit out the bread to answer.
From the spat-out bites the first mushrooms sprouted along the road 🍄

So, by no power invested in me whatsoever, I declare this week's #FolkloreFriday theme to be mushrooms, in honor of #FungiFriday

A start-up packaging company combines fungi with organic waste to grow and create compostable packaging.

Organic waste and mycelium is grown for 7 days in a mold and the final product is able to be used in place of traditional materials such as polystyrene.

After use, the packaging can be composted in the garden.

Let's do this now! 🍄

The fungi packaging is currently being trialled for use on products such as cosmetics and wine bottles.
