Cool blog post on Leaded Solder (one of my favorite blogs), where they make a space shooting game with Nintendo Family BASIC on the Famicom.
From unboxing to programming to the finished video of the game on YouTube, everything is carefully pictured, linked and documented-- an amazing post that really shows why I dig this blog so much.

Let’s Make A Space Shooter With Nintendo Family BASIC
Nintendo’s Famicom game console had an implementation of the BASIC programming language available for the system. The Family BASIC cartridge is studied, and a space shooter game is programmed with it.Leaded Solder
The kid and I had a great time at the Centre for Computing History in Cambridge today. As I anticipated he had fun playing old games on the many computers, games consoles and arcade machines, but he was also surprisingly interested in writing 2 line BASIC programs on the BBC computers in the "80's classroom" room.

BASIC Co-Inventor Thomas E. Kurtz has Passed Away.
It’s with sadness that we note the passing of Thomas Eugene Kurtz, on November 12th. He was co-inventor of the BASIC programming language back in the 1960s. The legacy of his work lives on in the generation of technologists.
