#story time: I once had a patient who kept putting off starting a medication until she could change her diet, promising me she was motivated to do so. Months went by - no progress. Finally, she disclosed that she was unhoused, living in a shelter & had to eat what was served, which was often high carb high fat fare. She thought she’d be out of there in a few months but she wasn’t. This is why “lifestyle medicine” won’t give us a healthy nation. We have to fix #poverty

Something I think on a lot: how the #capitalist, for-profit, US #healthcare system controls & limits time docs get w/ patients, so the C-suite can ⬆️ their bonuses, which leads to rushed visits, no time for nuanced discussions & cultivation of trust, thus patients’ anger & resentment, targeted at the *people* (docs & nurses) in least control of the *system*, allowing the #grifters to make $$ off people desperate for answers & control they don’t feel they received in the doctor’s office, leading now to deaths of children from preventable infectious diseases
