Why do they phrase it that way? "Woman braves wind at the seaside" (see caption at 16.42). It should read "idiot puts her own and potentially other people's lives at risk for no reason".

And the power is out and likely to be out for a while.

Big thanks to past me for filling the flasks up so we can have a cup of tea after gathering the Power Cut Supplies together for the evening.

Now the board games await.

Stay safe all.

An early Friday dancers as we still have power atm 😬 Big hugs as desired to everyone else also in the path of #stormEowyn & hope the disruption is minimal.

And to all, whether in the path of a storm or not, hope you have a good weekend if you possibly can.

The dancers are visiting the windiest place I've ever been outside of a storm. That headland - I've never walked so slowly in one direction & so fast in the other 🌬️ Take care all x

I let the ducks out. And the geese but they are much tougher than the hens. The ducks in particular are probably safer out their housing than in it. This picture was taken an hour before the storm was due to hit us (I am safe indoors now). #StormEowyn #poultry
A rural landscape featuring a grassy field with a few white ducks, wooden fences, and scattered structures. In the background, there are several buildings including a house and a byre. There is dawn light on the far horizon and the sky is a leaden grey.

Red Weather Warnings

Storm Éowyn (pronounced ‘Ay-oh-win’) tracked by https://earth.nullschool.net/

I've changed the times to show progression from 8am to 12am to 4pm to 8pm.
The model is surface wind, and I've picked a point on the UK map - shown as a small cyan circle - for a spot forecast, which is shown in the upper of the 3 boxes lower left. Some scary wind speeds shown there.
We're battened down here in eastern #Scotland, a sleepless morning but all is well so far.

08:00
An orthographic map of the earth, zoomed in on the UK with the European mainland and Scandinavia on the right. Wind direction and speed at the surface is shown as coloured lines, using a colour scale to indicate strength. An oval is in the ocean above the north of Ireland and the west of Scotland - this is the storm centre. A small cyan circle is in the Atlantic Ocean above the headland of Connaught and Sligo.
Three panels on the lower left are showing wind speed at the cyan circle, the time and other data.
12:00
The map as before, the cyan circle is now closer to the Scottish western coast and is showing a wind speed estimate of 125 mph.
16:00
The same view of the UK map, the cyan circle is now showing a point off the eastern coast of Scotland, with a speed of 96 mph.
20:00
The same map, the circle is now showing 95 mph and is further off the eastern coast of Scotland.

Morning folks, I've not got much to say this morning, thanks for the kind words yesterday, I am pretty numb still and will be for a while.

The wind woke me up just before 3am, I did manage to snooze again until 5. I will be staying in my pjs today, my nephew is staying at his work today, I'm glad of that. I'm not in the red warning area, unless its changed overnight.

Its going to be a scary day for some, so hunker down and stay as safe as you can.

Be safe folks and take care.

Hatches battened for Storm Éowyn which is hitting Ireland, Wales, Scotland and England today. It's pretty windy now, but the west and far north have it much worse. Stay safe, everyone. Here in Yorkshire, we're expecting peak storm around noon.

Ireland and parts of the UK expecting extreme winds tonight similar to a- *Checks notes* *Checks again* Category 2 Hurricane?? #StormEowyn

I don't do a lot of self portraits, and those I do tend to be wind and shadow based. Here's one from a couple of years back, updated this evening to reflect me looking at the weather forecast for the next 48 hours 😬

Because of the red weather warning tomorrow, all of Edinburgh's schools are closed. And a very many other activities too.

Stay safe, people!

First pic is the bullshit now, which is comparatively nothing, second is the serious bullshit happening by 3am. Expect serious wind damage, power outages, floods. Get what you need done by midnight, secure all the loose tat, get the water and power sorted and batteries charged up, and wall yourself in. Nobody is getting a damn thing done until tomorrow night. It's going to be bloody horrible. Everyone except the southeast will take a kicking. #stormeowyn
