She’s not wrong. If anything she’s being too easy on Starmer and Labour’s current trajectory.

Reminiscing about the SDP?
Overall, the article is a good summary of where we are, pulling together many different factors to give an overview of all the problems we currently face.

But i remain frustrated that so many people get paid inordinate sums of money to say exactly what many 'ordinary' people here say on a daily basis. I also don't think she's going to have any impact in changing the direction of this govt.

Starmer: the wrong man at the wrong time. (& there isn't a right time for someone like him)
Nope, sorry. Polly Toynbee is one of the worse examples of upper middle class centrists who throttled left wing politics and refused to see Starmer for what he was, but are still weeping and hoping he's going to be something he's not.
I think that old age has brought a dreadful realisation to the woman that she might have been backing the wrong arse of the Labour horse.
I don't even think she's realised it - she still thinks there's a reverse ferret coming.
Delusional - as have the few columns I have bothered reading testify to.
As usual, I didn't actually read it. I was sufficiently annoyed by the strapline.
I have long thought the "Special Relationship" to be that of a grovelling sycophant, desperate to feel "special". There was a time when we had one tentative foot in Europe that it might have been almost credible, but no longer. Any relationship there has been (apart from Harold Wilson's refusal to become entangled in the war in Vietnam) only if the UK is helping to further the aims of the US. Starmer still doesn't get it.
I think that's true of Europe in general, to an extent, but the UK is the worst of the sycophants. The US has been taking the piss for a while. We should have started closing their military bases here long ago and now it's probably too late.
Starmer is fucking hopeless. His lack of knowledge and political nous is going to ruin us.
The 'Special relationship' is just a propaganda myth that was invented by Churchill to make Brits feel OK about the US military turning Britain into an aircraft carrier for the use of USAF.... to protect USA from Russian expansion when the US wanted any nuclear war to take place in Europe and not USA....

Well said. I'm off my game today, you beat me to the "most cynical interpretation of any given subject" 😂
"cynical interpretation"... or historical fact?
