People who think being an atheist means you shouldn't listen to religious music are fucking numbskulls.
Well done for ruling out pretty much everything written before 1850 you sanctimonious tossers.
I love Christmas music. We didn’t do Christmas growing up. I just like the music
Yeah, most carols are lovely. I wasn't talking specifically about Christmas but obviously that's a great point. I was thinking of stuff like Mozart's Requiem and Bach's St Matthew's Passion, or madrigals or whatever. Just ignore all the music until Elvis. What a crock of shit.
Ooh I didn’t think about those! I’m all about classical music with some minor chanting
Was that a festive gatekeeper hot take ?
No, not particularly related to the festive season. I saw a post about it and didn't want to get into a pointless argument, but it annoyed me.
Plus I was listening to "Stars In My Crown" when I read it, which is very god-heavy. I just get very annoyed with that kind of absolutism.
given that both atheism and theism are belief systems, that's kind of the equivalent of saying that people with theistic leanings shouldn't listen to non-religious music.

absolutism in general is a bit ... unhelpful.
Well exactly. To quote Primal Scream:

"Today on this program you will hear gospel
And rhythm and blues and jazz
All those are just labels
We know that music is music ... "

I just couldn't be arsed to have the argument with the OP.
i expect it's one you could never win, so yes best avoided really
That kind of opening salvo didn't seem like the poster was conducive to debate or discussion, so I chose to keep my blood pressure stable.
We were saying earlier - have we considered cheese-making in the WU? I don't think it's come up ...
doesn't ring a bell (ha), but i suppose if the relevant animals would be happy to donate some milk to the cause ... (although there'd be none of this "cows' milk all year round" nonsense, bc :blobcatscared: bad things bad things happen to make that possible)

i expect the goats might like to share thought, and the sheep ...

(the dairy might need to be in its own little corner though, for reasons of pong.)
I'd already taken into consideration what I imagined your views on cows' milk would be 😁
Of course we'd only want ethical and non-harmful production methods.
Goats and sheeps are plenty good enough I reckon. Some cheese is better than no cheese!
What, another specialised area? Anyone would think this was a fictional realm with no requirements to base its contents in reality! 😂
😂 i know, silly me, adding more folds into our incredibly folded multi-dimensional space. where will it end??

and yes, some cheese is almost always better than no cheese. also, there will be pizza, so.
Well exactly. A utopia's not a utopia without pizza. That would be silly.
Also I know how to make ricotta already.

#Skills
quite.
and go you! i know how to make no cheese, although i have made butter from cream, a glass jar, and two marbles :BlobCat_Giggle:
It comes from living in rural Italy (/France/Spain) for years, and the general disdain for Things Bought In Shops (as I'm sure you've experienced). I very much like the shabby chic/ancient methods of making stuff.
That's all very Malory Towers 😂
Good grief. What next? Can't look at paintings with religious themes?
IKR? It's just so myopic and absolutist, it's not worth starting the "discussion". Hence my little independent rant, rather than wasting my energy on the OP 😂
Sensible. Can't be doing with that drama. Especially not at Christmas. 😏
Totes. If these people want to deny themselves the wonder of carols, madrigals and folk music, not to mention Mozart and Bach, that's their look out.
If I refused to consume any cultural material that included religion, I'd be missing out on one of my favourite on-going sci-fi book series, which is about nuns in space. (Our Lady of Endless Worlds series.) Funnily enough I can read those books without wanting to start going to mass again.
Yeah, funny enough I can enjoy the Messiah without wanting to drop in to my local God Office too.
(also thanks, I've now got this stuck in my head 😂 )
