When considering the state of civil rights in the UK today, the only thing you need to know is that an 87 year old Holocaust survivor was called in for questioning by the Metropolitan Police for attending a completely peaceful anti-genocide rally.

Sums up the UK police state
holy shit!
Oh aye. The Met are a lovely bunch of "law enforcers".

@RejoinEU I hoped this sort of thing would stop after the election.
Talk about a disappointment.
The UK is not a democracy. The very rich own everything and the Police are there to defend their hierarchy
At first I felt disappointed to witness the demise of British democracy then it occurred to me that it hasn’t really changed at all other than its political treachery has now become far more emboldened and blatantly obvious to anyone paying attention.
Come on now - that's just democracy with the mask taken off, it doesn't matter which country you're talking about.
Being anti-genocide should be the default position of every living person.

It's really so very basic and barely even an ask.

Anyone who would have to pause to "consider their position" on genocide should be named, shamed, tarred, feathered, and ridden out of town on a rail.
It's not even the default position of every position *on here*, the most liberal of the social medias. I've had two genocide fans reply to me just in the last couple of days, and I'd already blocked most of the usual avenues that they use.
It's why I'm eternally grateful to be on such a great instance - I just tell them to fuck off, block them, then out them so other people can do the same.
💯 Yep. Of course, sometimes they just block me which is a self-correcting problem as far as I'm concerned.

I won't be accused of antisemitism. I'm no more an antisemite than the scores of rabbis, Israeli Jews, and Holocaust survivors who have said similar if not the same things. Also, the ones who then claim to be hated for being "the wrong kind of Jew"...nah, they're hated for being precisely the right kind of genocide-endorsing asshole 😂 it's nothing to do with their religion or ethnicity.
Tbh what they say just bounces right off these days 😂
I'm hoping to one day ascend to the heights of chill that will allow me to NOT want to reach through the screen and shake the stupid out of someone. I'm thinking, in my case, this would require a near-lethal dose of Ativan. 🤣
Oh, I never mentioned anything about not wishing ultimate violence on these people (hopefully administered by me) 😂
Only that their puny taunts cannot touch me.
Now I sound like fuckin' Yoda or something 🤣
Also, try cake. An almost diabetic coma can be very calming 😉

His fault. He should have driven a tractor. Would have been ignored
What a shame 😡
@Sarahw
It's getting worse every time I go to one of the London marches.
It's extraordinary. What on earth are they trying to prove arresting peaceful elderly demonstrators? They're only making themselves look disproportionate and vindictive.
Since when has the Met cared about that? They've been getting away with it, aided and abetted by every government for my entire lifetime and before.
Well, it seems it's all the same here in France.
Shameful.
Yep. I've been on demos with child, so families and oldies split from the more active demonstrators.
Still got gassed.
One of the activists was severely injured by a flashbomb and the cops blocked the pompiers from getting to the site.
I've only been on one demo in France during the anti WTO days. Tear gas was pretty prevalent, and I've certainly seen footage from Palestine protests where it's been deployed.
