Exciting times ahead Tim - we get to relive 2008, 2010 *and* 2016 all at once, with added climate collapse 🥳 🙌 🙄
Hey I’m stocking up on popcorn! (While I can still afford it!!)
I admire your optimism but you'd better get some sandbags and canned goods while you're at it.
Hope you're good at building fires 😂
I have the cats to keep me warm - if I can get the little buggers to sit on me for long enough 😆
Fumed when I read about it this morning. In any case, only 3% of bank capital is invested in the economy - the rest is gambling.
Someone needs to write to the Treasury and tell them we all watched Margin Call and The Big Short.
This is the problem with having all these young folks in government. Reeves was probably only in primary school when the 2008 crisis hit, she will know nothing about it.

And half the staff at the Treasury probably weren't even born in 2008, so no-one there can tell her about it.

Wait, how long ago was 2008 again?
Just you wait - some financial wunderkind who really *was* in primary school in '08 will come up with next gen CDOs next week.
Then Southern Water can lump all those shares Moody's junk-rated yesterday into one Big Bag O' Crap and we'll be off and running.
Sadly, I'm not going to bet against you on that one

(BTW, just looked up what Reeves was doing in 2008. Turns out she wasn't in primary school. She was a fully qualified economist working for a fucking bank)
It's been in the post since the US repealed (or let run out, I can't remember) Dodd Frank. Some of the stuff in the article regarding regulation sounds very much like a UK version of that - definite echoes of neocon economists passim.
Yeah, she's a thoroughbred City wankstain alright.

Whooppeee! More ‘too big to fail’ More financial institutions being bailed out by the taxpayers. More politicians and knighthoods [Fred the Shred?] on the line? Why is Reeves being THIS stupid? 🤬
She's following her Thatcher-bot programming.
I have hit the, I give up on them, pretty much about all politicians.
Robin Cook was what I hung onto then.
The plot of The Diplomat season 2 springs to mind ...
- Maybe because:

"After leaving university, Reeves worked as an analyst and economist at the Bank of England from 2000 until 2006. She left the central bank to join HBOS on the retail mortgages team until late-2009, shortly before she was elected to parliament in the constituency of Leeds West.

HBOS collapsed in October 2008 and was subject to a government-backed takeover by Lloyds TSB. It was second only to RBS as the worst bank failure in British history."
Aye - Labour's answer to Rishi Sunak, without the billionaire wife. Lego Thatcher through and through.
jesus mother fucking christ these people.
What are you worried about? The cost of living crisis is over now the economy's grown a whopping 0.1% this quarter and interest rates isn't in double figures. Can't expect those bankers to lose out on their bonuses much longer.
Lego Thatcher strikes again 🙄
we are being way too civil to these people. Theyve earned some 1790s corrective treatment.
Hey, I've been all for guillotines becoming the latest growth industry for a *while* now :guillotine:
