Racist, bigoted, utter bastards. I hope the message spreads - Don’t go to the USA. don’t buy USA products. It has to hit them where it hurts.
It's hard to believe anyone would want to go to the US, with all sorts of bird flus jumping to humans and that measles outbreak, let alone the fascism.
I’ve seen several reports of tours etc being cancelled, as no one even wants to look at visiting the USA. That German woman, who had all her visas etc is still in detention I think. She had a return tix and all, but missed her flight because she was detained. Why would anyone risk that? And apart from rising preventable infections, the food safety standards admin has been DOGE’d, so feck knows what you are eating, or how safe it isn’t.
That's encouraging. Having seen all those near misses after the DOGEing of the FAA, it's not even safe to get on a plane there really.
Thankfully, made the decision never to fly again, post Covid. We didn’t fly much anyway, but pleased to have removed that option from our lives entirely.
Aye, I decided never to go to the US again after they passed the Patriot Act post 9/11 - no way I'm putting my fingerprints on their databases. I haven't flown for yonks either, and probably couldn't afford the insurance now, because of the epilepsy.
What a bunch of evil shits.
Aye. This guy's a professor there, and was directly involved, according to the Columbia SJP. He's notorious for manufacturing "antisemitic" attacks.
The "taking over" he's talking about is a student occupation of a library at Barnard College last week. The faculty and the NYPD faked a bomb threat to try to get the students to stop their protest.
Shai Davidai

Dear Sec Rubio

Thank you for your strong statements

Now we want to see strong action.

Illegally taking over a college in which you are not even enrolled and distributing terrorist propaganda sould be a deportable offense.

Because that's what Mahmoud of Columbia SJP did yesterday.
Sadly I think US universities will follow the money and their wealthy alumni/donors this time round.

The parallels with “Deutsche Physik” should be pointed out to the Royal Society more firmly.
Yes, I think you're right. Georgetown's administration and faculty have held firm on DEI for now, but they're the only major university I've seen do so.
That's an interesting parallel I hadn't thought of. Their excuse for not kicking out Space Karen was beyond weak. He's not even a scientist ffs.
I’m not naive enough to think the senior folks who want to hold onto their comfortable industry-supported professorships will have a Damascene conversion, but there needs to be a face-saving route to action and some degree of leadership that escapes the current Council.
Idk, unless it gets the kind of concerted protests like the ones directed at the British Museum etc I don't think anything will happen.
The criminals in power in DC (and Trump is in fact a criminal) have no shame. The question is whether Columbia will stand up to Trump or whether the academics will cave in like Martin Heidegger and become Nazis because of the allure of power.
Judging by the way a lot of the professors and the administration have behaved thus far, I don't have much hope of that. I don't know if you saw that tweet to Rubio from Davidai that I posted? I know he's a notorious drama queen when it comes to screaming antisemitism but it's pretty disgusting, nonetheless.
I don't see the tweet.
If you give me a minute I'll see if I can find it. My notifications have been crazy for a couple of days though, so hang on!
