As a genre it's existed for decades, but the word itself seems to be fairly new.
I kinda like it, it feels like treating romance fantasy with more respect than it previously got, and drawing more attention to the genre. I don't like the way people are going 'oooh, this is a new emerging genre and these few individual authors are so innovative and original, creating this whole new genre' and just ignoring everyone who's been writing romance fantasy for decades. It's not new, it's just finally being given wider attention.
