I don't know who needs to hear this but it is completely OK for you as an adult to buy yourself an advent calendar.

Any kind. Not just makeup or whiskey. You can buy a calendar with Spiderman toys if that's what you want. It's kind of the entire point of being an adult.

(Also, if you did buy a fun calendar, and you want to nerd out about it, please share :) )

Whenever I google "advent calendar for adults" it's always the booze calendars that pop up first. 🤷‍♀️
Did you buy any of those whiskey calendars?
nope, I don't really drink a lot of alcohol :D
there's a local coffee company that does a lovely advent calendar with various roasts and about 4 mugs worth of either ground or whole beans depending on your preference. It certainly made a couple of Decembers really nice with a different flavour to enjoy each morning 😀☕
(Afraid it's not that nerdy, unless you include the mugs one drinks it out of 😉)
I love that idea! :)
And I meant "nerd out" about any kind of calendar one might enjoy :)
Eldest Child: Face and Skin care advent Calendar
Youngest Child: Craft things a Day advent Calendar
My Wife: Murder Mystery Advent Calender - props and clues every day.
Me: Dr Who Advent calendar.

Whole Family: Escape the Toymaker's Lair Exit games advent calendar.

I love advent calendars :)
Me too! And what an amazing lineup!! What's in the Dr. Who one?
It's from a few years ago, I got old stock in a sale earlier in the year. Matt Smith era, but I kept it for Christmas because... Advent calendar..

I don't really know what is in it yet. I avoided checking.
Doctor Who Advent Calendar
I don't want an advent calendar with toys. But not because I'm an adult, because I already buy toys all year round!

This reminds me, I wonder if @PolypterusBell will be sharing another dinosaur toy advent calendar with us this year?
I've been buying LEGO Star Wars advent calendars for myself since they started making them.

Still do, although now they've become a shared activity with the oldest child.

Lol. I bought one from work yesterday.
Wife bought a cheese one on Tuesday. I wasn't popular for pointing out that it has to live in the fridge. I didn't yet mention that while I like proper cheddar, I don't like the weird adulterated mixes. Harmony, and she knows that anyway. I got a Danish teabag one last year as a present (either from Flying Tiger or Sostrene Grene (sp), can't spell Swedish).
One year someone in the family got a Lego Mini-fig one.
I bought myself a vegan chocolate advent calendar. 🍫
I couldnt agree more. I bought this beauty for myself from a lovely local stationery shop. I don't go in for the choc calendars as they mass produced marketing and a bit souless. But I do keep a little pot of chocolates near it so I can treat myself each day 😋
An advent calendar featuring a steam train and snow scene
This is not just a Christmas thing either. Several years ago I was thinking about toys I had as a kid and how my mom gave away all of my G1 Transformers... so I went on Ebay and bought a couple of mixed collections. They were not in mint condition, but now I have a bunch of the Transformers I used to have.

Part of being an adult is doing childish things that bring you joy.
I have a wine calendar and my brother saw me having such a good time with it the last two years, he's joining in the fun, too.

And a Godiva chocolate calendar to go with the wine.

It's nice to just sit down and very intentionally have some wine and cheese and chocolate.

I also got myself a shiny rock calendar, cause I like shiny rocks.
I love shiny rock calendars! Had one last year
my wife got this for me, I think she’s trying to kill me for the insurance money

soon I have to get out of bed and face door 2 😭😭😭
That's right Antti.
Don't even think about procrastinating. Torture yourself already at breakfast.
I think these are in the wrong order and I’m going to die now

I bought myself the EXIT games advent calendar where you solve puzzles each day to find out which door to open tomorrow. This is the 3rd year I've done it and it delights me!

Advent calendars have come a long way from the ones we had as a kid where you got a picture of an angel or a candle or somesuch and I'm all here for it
I'm all for adults buying themselves advent calendars. I buy a chocolate advent from my favourite Glasgow-based chocolatier most years. Delicious, & supports a local business
A glossy black advent calendar. It is decorated with metallic coloured line pictures of xmas trees. There are 3 doors already open, & empty of treats.
I just bought one with chocolates in it. The cadbury one with little chocolate bars. Kinda actually regretting not getting one of the cheapy ones with the chalkdust chocolates but have little pictures of santa or snowflakes on them instead.
I was given a Fredsted Tea bag one.
Forest Fruits today.
this is the way.
A photo of a cannabis advent calendar for sale on The Ontario Cannabis Store website. It features a box in the shape of a green xmas tree surrounded by a number of pre-rolled joints. The title is Color Calendar Pre-Roll and it costs $79.92.
I, a 31 year old man with no kids, have a Bluey advent calendar this year and it makes me happy. lol
I completely endorse this, Bluey is awesome
i am on my 3rd or 4th year of whiskey advent calendar and it's glorious :) 🥃
I wish those things brought me joy. I've done similar things and it feels masturbatory and hollow.

I don't think I'm better than anyone who does enjoy buying an Advent calendar or other similar things. Just the opposite, I don't feel better than that, I feel... Nothing when I "treat myself"

Your post caused me to want to buy one for my wife though. Never considered it and I'm super excited to do it. Gifting totally gives me joy but it's hard to know what to gift.

What are you/did you get yourself? All the box stores just sell chocolates so I think I need to go online to get anything slightly different.

Merry Christmas, or whatever else you celebrate, hope you have a wonderful new year.
husband and I have a permanent calendar with pockets we can refill with whatever the other one likes. For him it has been Warhammer pieces, or gaming dice, or Magic cards; I had various card decks, also dice, minerals, etc.
