A medium sized bird with mostly brown plumage, that has some white speckles on the underside. More white around the neck, resembling a white collar, which is typical (although not always present) in the otherwise rather variable colouration of this species. Its feet and the upper part of its beak are yellow. The bird is perched on a horizontal branch, which has small patches of moss growing on it. It stands on one leg, while the other is tucked close to its body, mostly hidden beneath its feathers, likely to conserve warmth.
