Love it! Don't know the shrub - but is that done through grafting, or does it do it naturally? Fabulous.
@JimmyB@mas.to Same! It's so unique :) I'm no expert, but when I had a closer look, it looked like grafting to my untrained eye. My guess is Lycianthes rantonnetii, also known as the blue potato bush (as a nightshade plant it's related to potatoes).

Nice looking plant! I stuff way too many plants into my littl garden. But might have to find a little space for one of those...

Wiki was helpful: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lycianthes_rantonnetii

Looks like it is grafted (can't find any reference to a dual colouring variety) and the white seems to be rarer. But that's fabulous. Thank you for sharing...

I'll have a think about a little spot!

But also need to check if it is suscepitble to blight like others in the solanacae family (toms and potatoes)...
My local nursery has them, and I was given a voucher for that nursery recently! Happy days. They've got both white and blue - so I'm going to try to create two double coloured ones. They also said that they are hardy enough to live outside here in #Jersey which is a joy, coz pots and winter frost protection are a pain!

Let's see what can be done: I've never grafted before so will need to do a bit of research.

@JimmyB@mas.to There's no such thing as too many plants! ;) You have a beautiful garden! Mine doesn't deserve the name yet, we only moved in two years ago, so what's growing at this point is mostly ideas and visions (the photo is from a short trip last October). 😅 Good luck with any blue/white/dual potato bushes!

Our garden is rubbish in the winter but I live for the spring and summer, then the autumn fruit and veg harvests. I'm a novice tho so get as many failures as successes... that's fine: keeps me on my toes.
That's the perfect way to look at it! 🙂 It's a lot of trial and error, isn't it - but that's nature!
Well - I could read more, focus more, and remember more - to improve success. But then spontaneity and intuition are great to have too. I don't usually mnd the failures if they are my fault. We get potato/tomato blight every year eventually, and local farmers who use increasing amounts of deeply toxic chemicals to control, make me pretty angry. In general though, successes are good enough to keep me really happy.

sadly the local nursery who said they’d got this plant in both colours didn’t in fact: they’ve got the potato vine, solanum jasminoides- which I’m sure is lovely but won’t be capable of grafting I assume…
@JimmyB@mas.to Oh no, bummer! Maybe they can order it for you? There must be some nurseries where you can order online? I found a nursery in Germany that has it (€20, not too bad!), but it does look like they're shipping to the UK. There may be others though!

can get it in the UK I think… and maybe the local@one can order it. The missus went for me today but I’ll head over tomorrow to chat
