“Chinese language #influencers who mostly post lifestyle content are interviewing election candidates on the social media app #Rednote, allowing politicians to bypass an apparent “shadow ban” on #campaigning by the app and reach a disengaged but vital audience.
The interviews with influencers who usually post about food, real estate and shopping have been published on a platform that is not actively monitored by the Australian Electoral Commission due to Rednote’s scale and the commission’s resources.
#ScottYung, the #Liberal candidate for the ultra-marginal Sydney seat of #Bennelong, where almost one-third of residents have #Chinese ancestry, has featured in multiple interviews shared by #Mandarin speaking influencers on Rednote in recent weeks.”
I note Scotty (another Scotty) highlighted himself due to State campaigning irregularities in 2019. Johhny (War crimes) Howard is all over the #Bennelong campaign. Howard, one step away from #CCP influence campaign. Handy Andy Hastings will be in fits.
This isn’t a “Chinese thing”, this is a “Politics thing” where a multicultural background is weaponised for candidates against the rest of Australian #voters.

Liberal candidate faces more questions over undisclosed campaign spending
Liberal Bennelong candidate Scott Yung says he has been “100 per cent” upfront and honest. But he won’t explain why he failed to disclose electoral expenditure worth tens of thousands of dollars.Max Maddison (The Sydney Morning Herald)
- no shit talking or "jokes" that are just racist stuff
- no obvious criticism of any kind (back-handed compliment might not get flagged)
- no pseudoscience
- no excessive filters
- no content theft or impersonation
- no flaunting of your wealth
- no inflammatory content or rage baiting
- kinda no politics unless it's to speak of openness and collaboration
- no complaining about how this is all fabricated to maintain people happy under their regime
And they are quick to ban and they won't waste time with your appeal. And I'm not even mad. Those are the rules for that specific app and we have so many other outlets to be angry. Red Note is to me an oasis of cute puppies, yummy recipes, cool tips and camping gear only available in China. It will actively push any negativity away from the app and lots of westerners are already complaining that they have lasted less than 24h before getting a ban for seemingly the most minor offenses.

(I don't have Tiktok because the brainrot there is an IQ killer)
FYI, tbh Americans got lucky with #RedNote - it's an app with a large female base, more like Pinterest than anything. If they had chosen Weibo, whoooboooy. I think diplomatic relations would crumble there and then.
But tbh, Chinese are mostly nice to waiguoren. But they will be mean if you offend them, 100%

Because fuck Washington. They respond to pressure, always remember, but if we’ve learned anything it’s this: positive change requires real pressure by the people. Congress is full of asshats that have no interest in doing a good job, only lining their own pockets at our expense.

About the only thing one should conclude from the experience is that China’s influencers have better production values than US’s influencers.

Strong legal headwinds are driving many users from #TikTok to #Instagram, Google shorts, and ironically, #RedNote, another Chinese app.
Meanwhile, increasingly regressive vibes from Meta's Zuck are driving many Instagram users to #Pixelfed
In turn, Pixelfed recently officially launched it's own mobile app.
Forecast calls for continuing rain of cat and dog photos, although it's not clear where they will be landing by next week.
