“The Treaty bill is not just about legal wording — it’s about economic power. If Te Tiriti is successfully reframed as symbolic rather than contractual, the Crown will have removed one of the last barriers standing in the way of total economic control.” #NZ #Aotearoa #Indigedon #TreatyPrinciplesBill #Indigenous #Māori #ToitūTeTiriti #TeTiriti

I guess this is probably one of the reasons why in the US they are working so hard to shut up women.

I noticed with all these #Maori #Haka videos that the carpet and seats of the #NewZealand parliament are green, as are the seats in the UK house of commons.

For obvious reasons, but it's something I noticed.

This is how you do democracy!

A #haka by Te Pāti Māori MPs interrupted the first reading of the contentious Treaty Principles Bill today, causing NZ Parliament to be briefly suspended.

Māori MPs of Aotearoa NZ, opposition MPs, and the public in the gallery disrupt the vote on an anti-Māori bill introduced by the right-wing coalition government 🔥🔥 🔥

Article in NYT about a New Zealand stone sculptor. Great work and with insights into Māori-Pakeha relations.: “I’ve got a lot of respect for him and how he goes down the right avenues to source New Zealand stone,” he added. “Yes, he’s Pakeha, but he understands the tikanga about connecting to the stone,” Mr. Gardiner said, referring to Māori cultural lore, “and asking the tangata whenua for permission to use it.”
