In NZ media news, Stuff reported the other day that NZME had been trying to buy Stuff newspapers but that fell through when right-wing billionaire Jim Grenon made his move to replace NZME's board.

Today the Herald is claiming that TradeMe is looking at a takeover of Stuff Digital.

Here's some marvelous #StreetArt from Ōtautahi-Chrstchurch city, NZ, that I photographed earlier this month.

Since the 2010–2011 earthquakes, the newly rebuilt city has been filling with art like this. I tip my hat to whoever in the council is allowing this to happen and supporting our local artists. It's fantastic. More!

A photo of an artist standing on a platform attached to a crane. He's finishing off a wall mural showing a cartoon cat riding a giant goldfish through a sunny sky with puffy clouds.

A photo of a wall in central Ōtautahi-Christchurch city featuring modern graffiti-styled street art featuring a tūī bird. A tūī is a dark blue-black iridescent bird white feather highlights on the neck including a spherical tuft of white feathers at the throat. They're one of NZ's supreme songsters and have been gradually increasing in numbers in the wider Christchurch area thanks to native forest regeneration and pest mammal control.

The artist signature read "Bails iKargs".

A South Auckland high school has made a desperate plea to its community after the “devastating theft” of equipment used to maintain its food garden. #NZ #Aotearoa #Givealittle #MutualAid #MutualAidRequest

A Givealittle page set up by Manurewa High School has claimed garden equipment worth more than $11,000 was stolen from its grounds last month, affecting the school’s ability to grow food for its community.

Here's the latest variant picture for New Zealand.

DeFLuQE variants continue to dominate, with XEC.* struggling to break above 40%.

This quite an unusual picture as XEC.* is already dominant in most places.

The LP.8.1.* variant has mostly been below 10%.

“The Treaty bill is not just about legal wording — it’s about economic power. If Te Tiriti is successfully reframed as symbolic rather than contractual, the Crown will have removed one of the last barriers standing in the way of total economic control.” #NZ #Aotearoa #Indigedon #TreatyPrinciplesBill #Indigenous #Māori #ToitūTeTiriti #TeTiriti

The competition is heating up for this years NZ #BugoftheYear competition.

@frankashwood is leading an excellent campaign for the charismatic if diminutive Giant Springtail. Some stylish free badges are celebrating this soon to be iconic NZ invertebrate.

And, yet, what is this? Sabotage!?

The bowl of giant springtail badges in our tea room are now mysteriously promoting the NZ praying mantis!

Will this cunning act sway the voters or backfire?

NZ Herald, BusinessDesk and Newstalk ZB journalists are being culled. A meeting has been called tomorrow, to be followed by smaller meetings where staff are allowed to bring a support person.

New Year’s resolution help for everyone in NZ: avoid NZ media, it’s the best thing you can do for your mental health. I accidentally stumbled across RNZ this morning, is there a single semi positive story on this page? No. Welcome to 2025, the doomers are in charge of what they think we read, the reality is the smart ones aren’t reading this mush any more. #NZ #rnz #media

In sad news for local media, Queenstown's feisty but under-financed Crux has folded.

When the ODT took over Mountain Scene & turned it into a virtual PR department for QLDC & the Chamber of Commerce, Crux stepped up & became THE place for fearless QT reporting.

Crux broke several stories & upset a few self-important people. But if QLDC & friends don't advertise in your publication, it's a hard road to profitability.

Some in QT will be celebrating.
